Merida Eclipse
Size:
Medium
Light, fast, rare
This is a Merida Eclipse - a rare bird indeed - we’ve only ever seen one other. It is made from both aluminium alloy at the joints and carbon fibre for the tubing. The idea was to use the best qualities of both materials for a responsive, strong but light-weight racing machine.
This particular example was donated to us by the family of its former owner, the late Ken Gilmore - once a national-level cyclist and a member of the Gilmore family which has former national, world and olympic champions in its ranks. Australian cycling royalty!
This bike came to use with an older Campagnolo setup. It worked but it can be hard to get parts for it these days, so we’ve installed a full Shimano 105 2x11 speed groupset. The cranks are the original ones - a lovely full carbon Fulcrum unit. Gearing is 50/34 at the front and 11-32 at the back. Handlebars are solid carbon and wheels are Mavic Aksum Race - so they’ll go forever!
A lovely bike with a story. We’ve even left Ken’s little name sticker on it, while he’s on the big velodrome in the sky.
